In the 17th century, a new print culture flourished in European university circles, as scholars devised an innovative category of broadside that combined text and imagery for teaching purposes. These single-sheet publications were used by students required to defend or attack a series of propositions in front of an invited audience.
This presentation will explore the ways in which imagery was juxtaposed with fragments of philosophical text on these unique prints to represent, summarize, and interpret complex systems of ideas.
You are invited to join us for an in-depth discussion of these early printed visualizations of knowledge!
FREE program. All are invited.
