Imagining America Conference
A Call to Action
Friday, October 4, 2013 at 8 AM - Sunday, October 6, 2013 at 5:15 PM
Off Campus
Thanks to the support of Provost Rous, UMBC is joining Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, "a consortium of universities and organizations dedicated to advancing the public and civic purposes of humanities, arts and design" at Syracuse University.
The consortium encourages and promotes scholarship in the arts and humanities and asks its members to translate this scholarship into civic action. In this process, members engage in “effort[s] to shape and frame conversations about enhancing a public culture of democracy on and off campus and alleviating public problems through democratic scholarship.” These efforts align well with numerous LLC dissertation topics, projects, and interests and the BreakingGround initiatives at UMBC.The 2013 National Conference: A Call to Action will take place from October 4 - 6, 2013 in Syracuse. A number of faculty, staff, and students are planning to attend. The registration fee for students is $125. Remember that GSA funds attendance up to $250. There may also be opportunities for cost sharing of housing and transportation.
