Social interactions require us to process facial expressions, tone of voice, gestures, word choice, and unspoken expectations all at once. For people with ADHD, challenges with attention, impulse control, working memory, and emotional regulation can make it harder to read these signals accurately. You may interrupt, overshare, miss a change in someone’s tone or assume you know what another person is thinking. These misunderstandings can create conflict, social anxiety, and worries about having said or done the wrong thing.
Dr. Sharon Saline will explain how to slow down, read the room without jumping to conclusions, and distinguish what you actually observe from the story your anxious brain may be telling you. Using examples from romantic relationships, friendships, families, and the workplace, she will share actionable strategies for reducing interruptions and oversharing, checking interpretations, asking clarifying questions, and responding when someone’s words and body language don’t match. You’ll leave with concrete language for starting difficult conversations, repairing misunderstandings, and becoming a more confident, attentive, and authentic communicator.
Participants will learn how to:
- Understand the ways in which ADHD affects reading body language and social cues
- Recognize common verbal and nonverbal signals without jumping to conclusions
- Reduce interrupting and oversharing while improving listening and conversational skills
- Use clarifying questions and practical tools to navigate misunderstandings in relationships, friendships, family, and work
