(seb) International Film Series: Arranged
A cinematic forum through the global lens
Thursday, October 18, 2012 · 7 - 9 PM
Arranged centers on the friendship between an Orthodox Jewish woman and a Muslim woman who meet as first-year teachers at a public school in Brooklyn. Over the course of the year they learn they share much in common - not least of which is that they are both going through the process of arranged marriages. (imbd)
(seb) and UMBC Hillel present Arranged an eye-opening story of two women forging a friendship that becomes stronger than their differences. On a campus where our diversity is nationally renowned, many of the struggles that each of us face everyday, go unknown. How do our cultural differences inhibit us from forming relationships? How can we overcome these barriers, in order, to create a stronger, open-minded campus? Is it ignorance or prejudice that typically prevents connection? How do we discern the difference between these divisive forces and what can we do to unite?
