Program Overview

This faculty-led study abroad course allows students to earn credit for any of the following courses (3 credits):

• SOCY 497: Selected Topics in Sociology
• SOCY 698: Advanced Selected Topics in Sociology
• GERO 798: Special Topcis in Gerontology

Work towards or complete requirements towards your major, minor, or certificate!

Participants will engage with a variety of academic, business, health, policy, and socio-cultural institutions. Key highlights include visits to the Kanagawa Prefectural Government, the Shonan Robo Care Center, Tokai University, and the University of Tokyo, among others. Students will explore pioneering health and long-term care systems, learn about preventive care practices, and observe the integration of robotics and technology in elder care.

Japan, renowned for its super-aged society and exceptional longevity, provides a unique and enriching backdrop for the exploration of global health and aging. This program, centered in Kanagawa, Japan, invites students to immerse themselves in the innovative health and aging policies, cutting-edge medical practices, and rich cultural heritage that characterize this dynamic region.
