We will discuss the itinerary, cultural activities, course (STAT414 or STAT 499) , and the ins and outs of the application process.
Program Overview
This program offers a unique opportunity to explore statistics through cultural immersion in India, combining academic learning with hands-on research and real-world experiences. Students will travel to Kochi, India, where they will be based at the Chinmaya International Foundation, a center known for its focus on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS). The program blends classroom instruction with experiential learning. Students will learn modern statistical methods and apply them to interdisciplinary research topics connected to traditional Indian knowledge. Working in small teams, participants will collaborate with expert researchers and gain practical experience in applying data-driven approaches to real-world problems. Beyond academics, the program emphasizes cultural immersion through field visits to historic sites, festivals, and classical performances. By the end of the program, students will have developed technical skills in statistics, gained international research experience, and built a deeper understanding of how culture and data intersect in solving global challenges.
Location Overview
The program takes place in Kochi (Cochin), located in the state of Kerala in southern India. Kochi is a historic port city known for its unique blend of cultures shaped by centuries of trade with Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The city features diverse cultural influences reflected in its architecture, religious sites, cuisine, and traditions. Kerala is widely known for its rich cultural traditions, classical arts, and holistic approaches to health and sustainability. Students will experience a mix of historic sites, local communities, and modern educational settings, providing a meaningful context to explore how culture, tradition, and data intersect in real-world applications.
