Study Abroad in Senegal Spring Break 2027: Info Session!

Join our faculty leaders, Professor Janet Gross and Dr. Omar Ka, and the Education Abroad Team for a hybrid info session to learn about the Storytelling in Senegal program. We will discuss the itinerary, cultural activities, courses (ENGL101 or Wolof), and the ins and outs of the application process. There will be snacks!

Program Overview

This faculty-led study abroad program explores storytelling as a cultural practice through written, oral, visual, and performative forms in Senegal. Students will examine how stories communicate history, identity, and cultural values while engaging directly with the vibrant cultural life of Dakar, Touba, and Saint Louis. Students will focus on critical thinking, research, and writing through the theme of storytelling across cultures. The program provides support for students studying Wolof, with opportunities for language practice and cultural immersion. 

Location Overview

Senegal is a culturally rich West African country known for its traditions of hospitality, creativity, and storytelling. The program begins in Dakar, the capital city and one of the major artistic and cultural centers of Africa. The program also includes visits to Touba and Saint Louis. Together, these locations provide students with opportunities to explore Senegal’s history, religion, arts, and everyday life while gaining deeper insight into the diverse stories that shape Senegalese culture.
