Halloween Around the World!
Did you know that Halloween has Celtic roots, coming from the pagan festival of Samhain in Ireland and the UK? It was believed that on Samhain the dead roamed the Earth so the living would need to dress as ghosts to ward them off or blend in. Over time, cultures have blended together and we have gotten to our common day celebration of Halloween! Halloween has spread to different countries around the world, and there are traditions ranging from Dia De Los Muertos in Mexico and Latin America, to Day of Dracula in Romania, and Pangangaluluwa in the Philippines! Read about some spooky Halloween traditions around the world, and make sure you check out our Abroad Blogs next week to learn more about if and how our Abroad Ambassadors celebrated Halloween in their host countries!
