Second Nature and the Intentional Endowments Network's 2021 Climate Action Pursuit : Towards Justice And Resilience has invited UMBC's Sustainability Office to participate as panelist experts on June 11th. Our Assistant Director of Sustainability, Ryan Kmetz, will speak about UMBC's Climate Resilience Planning and the role environmental social justice plays. UMBC's newest interactive web tools will be used as case studies for other institutions of higher education. Our Sustainability Coordinator, Kayla Hickman, will serve as a break-out room facilitator for the resilience and justice portion of the panel.
The Climate Action Pursuit is a platform for learning, planning, acting, and leading together on climate
and justice on our campuses, in our communities, and across our society
and economy. The goals of the program this year include:
1) Delivering the learning, challenge, and support that each key stakeholder needs to lead powerful and equitable climate action
2) Accelerate progress on key metrics including both key process metrics (e.g. climate action plan implementation and policy change) and outcome metrics (e.g. emissions reductions, energy transition targets, etc.)
3) Create meaningful engagement for specific stakeholder groups by meeting participants' need to connect with peers, build networks, and be supported to do their jobs well
