This weekend, UMBC spread sustainability at the Annual Kinetic Sculpture Race in Baltimore and took home a grand prize! Students created the sustainable kinetic sculpture: professor Steven McAlpine taught INDS classes in fall and again in spring, with the class project of designing and building a sustainable sculpture. The environmentally themed "kraken upcycle" was the result- a seamonster made of plastic. The message behind it was meant to convey that petroleum/ plastics/ pollution is today's seamonster, and recycled materials were used to create the sculpture!
