Women of Color Reception
For self-identified women of color in the UMBC community!
We're celebrating a new school year at UMBC, and we want to bring together UMBC's women of color students, staff, and faculty to snack, share, and network among one another! If you identify as a woman of color, you are invited to help build a strong foundation for the coming school year.
This year, we are honored to host two keynote speakers:
Candace Dodson-Reed, '96, Chief of Staff in the President's Office at UMBC
Yoo-Jin Kang, '15, Coordinator for Alcohol and Other Drugs in American University's Health Promotion & Advocacy Center
Candace and Yoo-Jin will speak on the theme of women of color "Telling Our Stories." This year, we are inspired by the recent revival of the Telling Our Stories project, and hope to continue encouraging women of color to speak truth to power through their own unique experiences and perspectives.
For those familiar with the Women of Color Coalition (WoCC) discussion group, this event will be less discussion-based and more about networking. During the event, we will provide more information about the WoCC (now in a new form as "Women of Color Collective") and a preview of our programming for the semester at this event.
WoCC provides a supportive space for women of color to come together for conversation, networking, and advocacy.
All self-identified women of color students, faculty, and staff are welcome to join our biweekly conversations!
This event is co-sponsored by Campus Life's Mosaic Center and the Women's Center.
Please note the Women's Center will be closing at 5pm so that staff can be available to support the reception.
