A discussion group for UMBC's women in STEM.
This Women in STEM discussion is a joint venture with CWIT's Impact Workshop series and features Dr. Kate from GWST who will be presenting on "Allyship 101: Doing Politics Together--and Apart." This is a BONUS discussion we're adding to the monthly series.
Allyship 101: Doing Politics Together--and Apart
Nothing about us without us" was a rallying cry of the disability rights movement in the 1980s and it echoes through movements today. Those most affected by an issue should be the ones leading the charge, because they (or we) are the ones who know what we need. How do we support others in their struggles in ways that help without taking over or re-centering ourselves? What does solidarity look like--and what can it look like when we think about allyship in ethical terms? Join Dr. Kate Drabinski for a workshop and discussion of these issues
Pizza will be provided during this lunch time discussion. Please RSVP by clicking "I can attend" so we can be sure to order the right amount of food for everyone.
This event is part of the Women's Center's Women in STEM Discussion Series. Each discussion group will take place on the 2nd Friday of each month at noon during the spring semester. Guest facilitators (staff and faculty in STEM fields at UMBC) change each month.
