UMBC Symphony Orchestra
A free performance in Linehan Concert Hall!
The Department of Music presents the UMBC Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Philip Mann in a program featuring works by Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn, Richard Strauss, William Walton, and UMBC student Jean Nguyen, with student soloists Jocelyn Faison, Veronica Anzola Rojas, and Albert Russell:
- Brahms — Academic Festival Overture, Op. 80 (1880)
- Mendelssohn — Concerto for Violin in E Minor, Op. 64, (1844, revised 1845), with soloist Veronica Anzola Rojas
- Nguyen — Blue Hour (world premiere)
- Strauss — Concerto for Oboe and Small Orchestra in D Major, TrV 292 (AV 144), (1945, revised 1948), with soloist Jocelyn Faison
- Walton — Concerto for Viola (1928–1929, revised 1961), with soloist Albert Russell
Jean Nguyen was the winner of the 2025 UMBC Symphony Orchestra Composition Competition, and Jocelyn Faison, Veronica Anzola Rojas, and Albert Russell were the winners of the 2025 UMBC Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.
