On the Road to NICBR
National Interagency Confederation for Biological Research
Thursday, November 14, 2013 · 9 AM - 3 PM
Off Campus
We would like to invite students interested in careers in medicine or biomedical research to join us for an Exploring Careers in a Scientific Environment Symposium on Thursday, November 14, 2013. The goal of the symposium is to highlight career paths for students while presenting an overview of research being
performed at Fort Detrick by the various government agencies that are partners in the National Interagency Confederation for Biological Research (NICBR), including the Army, the Navy, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Agriculture, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, and the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health.
The symposium will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with tours extending until 4:00 p.m. Sign-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. During the morning, representatives from the various NICBR partner laboratories will describe their research programs and provide information about potential career paths available at their agencies, including opportunities for internships and fellowships. After the morning presentations, participants will have the opportunity to interact with the speakers during an informal lunch period. (Participants will need to purchase their own lunch. A café is available on location.). After lunch, there will be a panel Q&A session, and some agencies will offer tours of their laboratories (pre-registration required). To ensure a safe environment for all participants, pre-registration through our website is required so standard “background checks” can be completed.
Registration Website:
http://ncifrederick.cancer.gov/events/NECSES/default.asp
Driving directions to Fort Detrick and parking at the conference center are also on this website. Although the tours are open to both US and non-US citizens, early registration is essential to allow sufficient time for the clearance process. Note: Students must be able to provide their own transportation.
The deadline for registration is October 1, 2013.
Please share this information with your students and colleagues. You may contact Ms. Alice M. Jones directly at alice.m.jones3.civ@mail.mil if you would like more information.
We look forward to seeing you at the NICBR Exploring Careers in a Scientific Environment Symposium!
Sincerely,
Ms. Alice M. Jones
