At the UMBC Career Center, we know that career readiness happens everywhere—from research labs and local non-profits to on-campus jobs and off-campus workplaces. Every step a Retriever takes builds valuable skills and shapes their professional journey.
To better reflect the diverse ways our students gain skills, we are officially rebranding our long-standing Intern of the Week series to Experience Spotlight.
While internships remain a vital part of student development, this broader focus ensures we are recognizing all types of work integrated learning, including:
-
Internships & Co-ops: Traditional summer and term-based corporate, public, and social sector positions.
-
On-Campus Employment: Student assistants, peer mentors, and desk workers keeping campus running.
-
Off-Campus Jobs: Part-time and full-time roles and post graduation offers.
-
Research & Creative Projects: Undergraduate research, lab work, and independent artistic endeavors.
-
Volunteer & Community Engagement: Volunteer, non-profit work, and civic action.
Every experience matters, and we want to ensure every student feels seen and celebrated.
