Tell us about your experience, including your day-to-day responsibilities:
Throughout my internship, I worked with a team to design, develop, and test a new AI product to support the government’s needs. I utilized the Agile methodology to establish a pipeline for bringing our project to life. I learned how to build and deploy a computer vision model for real-time object detection. Throughout the project, I regularly met with senior leadership to receive feedback, discuss solutions, and implement their recommendations. Alongside my own project, I also collaborated with other interns and provided support on their projects.
Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?
I would like to thank the Maryland Lighthouse Industries and AI Internship Program and Handshake for providing this opportunity exclusively to Maryland students and residents. I was browsing new job postings on Handshake late one night when I happened to come across this position under the UMBC Collection. Given my interest in AI/ML and research, I was compelled to apply as soon as possible.

What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?
I got to take part in developing a real project from the ground up. It not only helped me develop my skills in AI, but also gave me the opportunity to take on a leadership role and make sure our work saw the light of day. On top of that, I knew the work I was doing at Bowler Pons was meaningful. It’s factors like these that make me enjoy working at an organization with a national security mission.
How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?
The work I got to do at Bowler Pons actively contributes to keeping our nation safe. Every day I walked through their doors, I knew I was in a special place where everyone in the room was aligned around the same national security mission.
