To celebrate Campus Sustainability Month, our Eco-Ambassadors have planned our first ever Green Halloween. We have a series of spooky sustainability events and activities for everyone to enjoy.
In-Person Activities:

The Office of Sustainability has partnered with Residential Student Association to collect materials from around campus that were going to be thrown out. Join us for an opportunity to turn this ‘trash’ into upcycled Halloween decorations!
Friday, October 22nd
2:50-4 PM
Meet in front of the Yum Shoppe at 2:50
We are going on a hunt to identify invasive species who are attacking natural areas around campus with the Environmental Task Force. The group will be meeting at the Commons where you will receive an identification guide and instructions on how to complete the scavenger hunt. Identify 3 species and win some Sustainability Matters Swag!

The Office of Sustainability will be hosting a community screening of Anote’s Ark. An award winning film which centers the story of citizens of the island nation Kiribati and their fight for climate justice.
State of the Period: An Open Conversation on Student Period Poverty
7:30-8:30 PM
Join an open conversation about how period poverty impacts students. We will also spend time discussing reusable menstruation products and students will get a chance to sign up for a free menstrual cup!

Sustainable Halloween Costume Contest!
Submission deadline: October 28th
Dressing up for Halloween doesn’t have to hurt the planet. A sustainable Halloween costume is thrifted, borrowed, or made out of items you already owned. Enter our sustainable Halloween Costume Contest for the chance to win a sustainability themed gift basket.

Fall Harvest: Virtual Videos with UMBC Dining

Our office has partnered with UMBC Dining to provide virtual tutorials on how to cook with local foods harvested in the Fall. Stay tuned for tutorials on how to roast pumpkin seeds, make apple peel potpourri, and much more! Videos will be posted on UMBC Dining’s Instagram.
