Humanities Teaching Lab: Creating Citizen Critics
Using Adobe Spark to Engage Critical Communities
Friday, September 27, 2019 · 10 AM - 12 PM
In her essay “Beyond the Aesthetic: Citizen Critics & Protopublic Classrooms,” Rosa Eberly proposes that classrooms can be transformed into protopublic spaces where students can access tools to become engaged and vigorous citizen critics. This Humanities Teaching Lab (HT Lab) will teach participants how to use the free suite of web and mobile applications, Adobe Spark, to foster this engagement by creating content such as social media posts, web stories, and animated videos. Participants will have the opportunity to create a sample blog post that incorporates text, images, videos and explore the web story feature, which allows students to create magazine-style blogs or essays that can be used for public-facing course assignments. No prior experience is required to use Adobe Spark and the program can be accessed via your web browser or by downloading the app to your smartphone or tablet.
