Exploring Allyship & Advocacy in the Workplace
Kicking off our PRIDE Week program is our collaboration with the Career Center at UMBC as part of their annual Career Month. This virtual workshop is designed for anyone involved in managing the hiring process (e.g. interviews, search committees). Additionally, there will be an opportunity to connect with students who are or will be in the process of seeking employment in and outside of UMBC.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn best practices for inclusive hiring, onboarding, and retention. Student job seekers – learn the keywords you need to search for an inclusive workplace, the best questions to get a “feel” for the organization’s climate, how to market your cultural capital as a professional skill, as well as the crucial questions to ask that will help you get the job.
Time will be allotted for both professional and student participants to ask questions. All questions are welcome. Questions can be submitted anonymously in advance via Google Form available through The Pride Center Linktree.
Our i3b staff strives to create the most inclusive environment possible. If you need to request a disability-based accommodation or have any questions? Contact us at i3b@umbc.edu. For our uploaded event recordings, attendee lists, works cited, and other materials, please check out our Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging (i3b) Events Drive. Materials will be available in this Google Drive within one business week after the event unless otherwise specified.
