RESCHEDULED: [Free]dom Fridays: Beyond MLK
Celebrating Obscured Black Power & Civil Rights Leaders
Friday, January 15, 2021 · 2:30 - 4 PM
[Free]dom Fridays are designed to provide a virtual space to have an open dialogue about social justice and identity-based topics with other participants.
This session will examine the decline of the civil rights movement, the political aims of the Black Power movement, and thought leaders and activists who were rendered invisible in both movements due to in-group marginalization. Discussion will also include the connections and lessons learned between past and current struggles for liberation & freedom.
All undergrads, grads, staff, faculty, and alumni are encouraged to attend! For any questions, please email Erin Waddles, Coordinator with Initiatives for Identity, Inclusion & Belonging at waddles@umbc.edu or at i3b@umbc.edu.
