The Boren Scholarship Program promotes long-term linguistic and cultural immersion in countries and languages deemed critical to U.S. national security. Undergraduate students can receive up to $25,000 to fund an approved study abroad program. Preference will be given to Boren Awards applicants proposing overseas programs of at least 25 weeks’ duration, while the minimum duration of an eligible program is 12 weeks for most Boren Awards applicants.
The Boren Scholarship can fund study of Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, and Russian, among other languages. The Boren Scholarship also funds Flagship Language Programs to study languages like Turkish, Hindi and Urdu, several African languages (Swahili, Twi, Wolof, French, and Zulu) as well as languages of Southeast Asia, including Indonesian,Thai and Vietnamese.
Dr. Brian Souders, Associate Director of Global Learning in the Education Abroad Office and Boren Scholarship Representative, is holding two information sessions to share more information about the program.
