UMBC PhD alumna Catherine Mata publishes studies on AI use and student success
UMBC Public Policy alumna Catherine Mata (Ph.D. '22) recently co-authored a study of over four years of AI chatbot use by students at a large, urban public university. The paper, Sustaining AI-Enabled Student Support: A Four-Year Implementation and Impact Study (LINK) appears in the Journal of Postsecondary Student Success.
This follows an earlier article from this year in the journal Economics of Education Review, Let’s Chat: Leveraging Chatbot Outreach for Improved Course Performance (LINK), that examined the use of non-generative AI chatbots to message students enrolled in online undergraduate classes.
