The Yamas 5 Week Yoga Series
Interested in learning yoga, or deepening your practice? Maybe squeezing some light exercise into your day? Or perhaps you'd like the opportunity on a Monday to press reset and return to the second half of your work day feeling rejuvenated? If yes to any (or all) of these, they are all good reasons to join us for this five week yoga series.
Ashley Myers will be leading us through a light Vinyasa-style yoga class on 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22 and 5/6. We will learn and practice basic yoga postures connected as a flow using the breath to lead us through our movement.
In this series, Ashley will also be incorporating the theme of The Yamas - the first of the eight limbs of yoga. The Yamas, which focus on our attitudes towards our environment and others, will be broken down as follows:
Week 1: Ahimsa - nonviolence
What to be gained from this course includes (but is not limited to):Week 2: Satya - truthfulness
Week 3: Asteya - non-stealing
Week 4: Brahmacharya - non-excess, continence, control
Week 5: Aparigraha - non-possessiveness, non-greed, non-coveting
- Increased flexibility
- Knowledge of yoga postures to be practiced at home, if desired
- Safe and proper alignment for yoga postures
- And most importantly, how we can take what we learn and practice on our mat, into our everyday busy lives off our mat. With the obstacles and stress life brings, these can be valuable tools for one to have.
Modifications for beginners and options for more advanced yogis will both be offered. All levels are welcomed.
