Describe the process of obtaining your position. When did you hear of the position and submit your application?
I found the position on Handshake over this last Winter Break. I thought it aligned with my career interests, so I applied for it. I received my offer for the position in February.
What resources did you use to find your current experience?
Handshake
What have you enjoyed the most about your position and organization?
What I enjoy the most about my work is that I get to work with high school students from all across Maryland. They are all extremely smart and talented. I get to see them showcase their skills and develop themselves professionally.
How do you believe you have made an impact through your work?
I believe I have made an impact through my work because of the work I did for Youth Congress Day, an event which took place in March in our state's capital. Youth Congress Day was a culmination of all the hard work which my students did throughout the school year. They were able to observe a Senate Hearing on the floor, as well as presenting interactive STEM Advocacy discussions to their peers and State Legislators. I took part in helping plan the event, as well as helping my students with their presentations and topics.
What advice would you give to another student who is seeking an internship or similar experience?
My advice is to apply to every internship that you find. even if you think you are not qualified for it, or you think that they wouldn't pick you as a candidate. Do not undersell yourself and your skills!
Please provide a short reflection or quote about what you liked most about your position / earning internship credit / working with the Career Center.
What I have liked most about my internship is that it is not just me doing work on my own. I get to collaborate with everyone at work and the students I work with. We are all working towards a common goal together and holding each other up to the highest standards while doing so.
