University of Maryland Baltimore County welcomes activist-authors Dr Eddie Moore Jr, Debby Irving (Waking Up White, Elephant Room Press, 2014), Verna Myers (What if I Say the Wrong Thing? 25 Habits for Culturally Effective People, American Bar Association, 2014), and Jack Hill, head of middle school, Cambridge Friends School,  Join us in conversation around the book's main premise that white women make up 65% of the teaching force in America and can play a critical role in developing nurturing and challenging learning environments that help black boys feel a sense of belonging and love at school.
 
The guide hopes to teach three main principles:

1. How to develop learning environments that help Black boys feel a sense of belonging, nurturance, challenge, and love at school.
2. How to change school culture so that Black boys can show up in the wholeness of their selves.
3. How to overcome unconscious bias and forge authentic connections with your Black male students.

The conversation will tackle such topics as, “Is loving black boys enough?”, “How might loving black boys differ from loving students from different identity groups?”, and “Why dedicate a whole book to just white women teachers who teach black boys?”
 
Book signing is at 3:00 pm. Books will also be available for purchase. The book signing will end promptly at 3:45 pm and the panel discussion will begin at 4:00 pm.
