The WILL Program at UMBC engages students, faculty, and student affairs staff in a learning community that promotes academic excellence, leadership development, career exploration, and civic engagement for women. Joining WILL means joining a community dedicated to expanding students' intellectual horizons by way of lectures, workshops, films, and cultural events that integrate classroom learning with out-of-the classroom activities.
WILL also develops practical leadership skills by supporting the group’s efforts to plan and organize events and activist projects that confront inequities and felt needs on campus, in the surrounding community, and beyond. You will learn how to move step by step, from defining problems, coming up with possible solutions, building coalitions with others, and making things happen, all with the support of dedicated faculty, staff, and peers.
Together these components provide the basis for students to engage actively in UMBC’s intellectual and community life, to gain valuable leadership skills, to make informed career choices, and to develop your core values, especially as they are shaped by the challenges and opportunities of a multicultural society.
